Metabolic Bone diesease

Caused by an inbalance in the levels of calcium, phoosphorous and vitamin D in the reptiles body

MBD can show up in carnivourous animals but is more common to show up in insectivores.

 

MBD can start from being new born reptiles or a adult that is not cared for correctly but the major deformitys happen at a younger age in most cases.

If calcium levels in the blood become very low the reptile can become accustomed to being depressed, lethargic, Twitching of limbs, Tremors, hind end weakness, seizures In the most severe cases it can even lead to death.
Other sypmtons are;

• Limping

• Bowed legs

• hard lumps along legs, spine or jaw

• softening and unusual flexability of the lower jaw

• Difficulty raising the body off the floor.

 

We provide all our reptiles with mandatory sources of calcium and multi vitamins to avoid any sign of MBD.
